My Antonia
H.L. Mencken once wrote, "No romantic novel ever written in America, by man or woman, is one half so beautiful as My Antonia."
I believe he is correct. The space I am allowed here to describe this book cannot do it justice. I cannot read a few paragraphs without tears leaping to my eyes, the words are too beautiful. Summary: the fond remembrance of an astonishing, but believably real, immigrant woman from Bohemia living in 1880s Nebraska. A literary feast.
